Established in Morgantown in 1993 as the Appalachia Lifelong Learners, the program was granted an endowment by the Bernard Osher Foundation and became the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at West Virginia University in 2010. The Charleston satellite was established in 2015. Today, OLLI has more than 800 members between the two programs.
OLLI at WVU is supported by interest from the Osher Endowment, funds from West Virginia University and the WVU School of Public Health, gifts from members and other donors, and member dues and fees.
Governed by a member-elected Board of Directors and managed by a small staff, OLLI values the shared knowledge and talents of our members and volunteers.
Most classes are held in our Mountaineer Mall Classrooms A and B, and in the Computer Lab. A few are presented at various WVU and community locations.

Instructors and members of OLLI at WVU will find Classroom A to feature a multi-media projector, laptop, and internet connection, as well as DVD, VCR, and CD players that allow for movies and music to be used in the classroom. Classroom A also has additional items such as a record and cassette tape player, a wireless lapel microphone, television, and even a piano, all of which may be utilized during the courses OLLI at WVU has to offer. At the back of Classroom A are restroom facilities available for member convenience.

All computers in the lab operate with Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit, and feature high-speed internet access, DVD+/-RW drives, multi-flash card readers, and the ability to print. Each computer also has two available USB ports. The computers are able to print to an HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer located in the lab.
The Main Office
The main office for OLLI at WVU is located in the center of the Mountaineer Mall and is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The office is where membership applications or course registration forms may be submitted, dues can be paid (as well as online), and is also the right place for gathering information and signing up for one of our upcoming trips.
The Member Lounge
Across the hall from classroom A is an area designated as the Member Lounge. This lounge offers members the opportunity to relax and socialize. Tea, coffee and water are available, as well as the use of a microwave. On the wall next to the coffee machine, is a donation box specifically for the coffee service. These donations help keep this service available and free for all members.
