WVU Art Museum Lunchtime Looks: Dr. Natasha Murray-Everett
Friday, October 4
Museum Education Center
12:00-1:00 p.m.
Dr. Natasha Murray-Everett is an assistant professor in WVU’s department of Curriculum & Instruction. She teaches courses in Social Studies Education and has brought many of her students, who are pre-service teachers, to the Art Museum in the past to discuss ways to integrate art into the social studies curriculum. She is passionate about encouraging these pre-service teachers to engage in social justice and anti-racist practices in the K-6 classroom. Many pieces in the Art Museum’s current exhibition, "Collective Insight: The Harvey & Jennifer Peyton Collection" focus on issues of social justice relevant to Dr. Murray-Everett’s teaching and research. In her talk she will discuss how art can be used to incite critical dialogue around issues of race and justice in an educational setting.
