Wild Wonderful Whole Grains: Whole Grains A to W-Cooking With Each in the Home

Cindy Gay is again offering a whole grains seminar! This is not an OLLI course but is instead an open house offered through the WVU Ag Sciences school.

The event is free but there is a fee for parking.

This session will review whole grains, how to find them and prepare them. The nationally recognized registered dietitian nutritionist will show dishes she made at home using a variety of cooking or baking techniques. You will be inspired to create healthy plates with a new whole grain. The session will be concluded with a soup and salad meal.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn how to cook or bake a new whole grain.
  • Learn where to find whole grains locally and how much they cost.
  • Plan healthy plates with whole grains for breakfast, lunch and dinner meals.
  • Name whole grains A-W and what to make with them.
  • Learn how to use a flour mill.

About the speaker:

Cindy Gay, RDN, LD

As an RDN working in West Virginia for 40 years, Cindy planned and served nutritious recipes and meals for 1000 customers a day. In 2014, the Health Sciences Cafeteria she managed was chosen by Food Service Director Magazine as one of the Healthy 15. The “Healthy Café” was chosen across all market segments for providing a healthy dining environment. In 2007, the HSC Café received the Whole Grains Council Challenge Award for Healthcare. Since retiring in 2015, Cindy enjoys testing and sharing unique ways to combine healthy seasonal ingredients in meals made at home.
