New Added Classes at OLLI This Fall

OLLI is happy to announce the addition of a class taught by Dr. Leo Horacek this fall and a second section of Special Places in WV: National Lands and Using Your Apple iPad and iPhone.

Dr. Horacek will join us on Wednesday, October 31, from 10:00 – 11:50 a.m. in classroom A for Irving Berlin: American Songwriter.

Irving Berlin was born in Russia and came to this country as a young child. With very little education and no music training, he created more songs beloved by Americans than any other songwriter. Georg Gershwin said Irving Berlin was the greatest songwriter that ever lived. Berlin claimed that he always wrote for the common man and his songs seem to reflect the best of American attitudes. God Bless America, White Christmas, Give Me Your Tired Your Poor have almost become national anthems. The class will discuss his life, study his lyrics, and hear the music for some of his most important songs.

Due to high demand, Ed Johnson will teach a second section of Special Places in WV: National Lands on Thursdays, November 1 and 8, from 12:45 – 2:35 p.m. in classroom A. Members on the wait list for the earlier-scheduled section will be given priority when registering.

With the help of a new volunteer, Madison Wells, OLLI is able to offer a third section of Using Your Apple iPad and iPhone this fall. These classes will be held on Wednesdays, October 24 and 31 from 1:00 – 2:50 p.m. in classroom B. Again, priority will be given to those members currently on a wait list for the class.

To register for any of these classes, visit olliatwvu.org or call the OLLI office at 304-293-1793.
