Memories of a Veteran

Most Sundays from late August through early December, I can be found on my sofa watching football. I’ve become a die-hard fan over the last decade and follow several teams, although I do have a couple of favorites.

This Sunday, I’m hoping that one of our local channels will carry the Dolphins/Packers game. The Green Bay Packers are one of my favorite teams, a love that I share with my grandfather, Owen McGlone. Although he’s been gone for more than 35 years, I still remember him with love. I have a picture of my grandparents in my bedroom so I see him every morning.

This Sunday, as I do every November 11, I will remember Owen McGlone, not just for being my grandfather but for the sacrifices that he made to serve his country during World War II. Grandpa was a veteran, as were so many of his generation. He also inspired several members of the family to serve as well. So, on this day, I will take a moment to thank Grandpa and all of our veterans for their service to our country. The other 364 days of the year, I will continue to do what I can to support them by fighting for their physical and mental health care and more.

Love you, Grandpa! Go Packers!
