WVU New Faculty Orientation (virtual)

West Virginia University’s annual New Faculty Orientation is always a special time to welcome new faculty to our Mountaineer family. Like many things, this year’s event will be a little different. On Wednesday, August 12, 2020, we will host a virtual event for new faculty across all WVU campuses (including Potomac State and WVU Tech) from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (with breaks built-in).

We have moved to a virtual format this year to ensure the safety and well-being of each of you as well as our campus community.  In fact, there are a number of other things that will be different this year due to COVID-19. We feel that it is more important than ever to ensure that we connect with you as soon as possible and to help you connect with your cohort of new colleagues. We also see this as an opportunity to share our gold and blue spirit and reasons why we love and are so loyal to this institution. We also will focus on demonstrating WVU’s values of Service, Curiosity, Respect, Accountability and Appreciation.

We are excited to co-host again this year’s virtual New Faculty Orientation with the WVU Teaching and Learning Commons – or TLC. There are a variety of resources and support mechanisms in place to ensure your success and well-being, and the TLC is an important one. Last Spring 2020, the TLC team helped us successfully pivot over 6,000 face-to-face courses to a high-quality online format in less than two weeks. This summer they have supported almost 300 instructors in a Hybrid Teaching Institute to prepare for the upcoming expansion of instructional modalities on campus.

In addition to highlighting the TLC and its offerings, this year’s event will also reflect some of our institutional efforts to address racism and racial inequality within the WVU system. Please be sure to read President Gee’s June report to the University’s Board of Governor’s outlining his commitment to “recognize [our] deficits and act quickly to effect change.”

While the delivery mode is different this year, we are confident that the information and networking opportunities will translate well to a virtual platform. Please visit the TLC site to register. Please note that online registration must be completed by August 10, 2020.
