WVGS 14th Annual Scientific Assembly

The 2018 West Virginia Geriatrics Society Scientific Assembly, “Caregiving: Challenges and Solutions” will be held Thursday, September 13, at the University of Charleston. The event is designed to enhance the care of the geriatric population and address pressing issues currently on the forefront of geriatric care. In communities across the Mountain State, nearly 300,000 West Virginians care for older parents, spouses or other loved ones, helping them to live independently in their own homes. These family caregivers have a huge responsibility.

This activity will recognize and discuss that caring for others is difficult and caregivers often feel stress. The training will focus on identifying burnout, stress relief, specific strategies for caring for the patient with Alzheimer’s disease and those with chronic conditions. They will learn how palliative and hospice care services can be used to enhance the quality of life for patients.
