PICKLEBALL

Pickleball is fun and a great social game. It is easy to learn and play whether you’re five, eighty-five or somewhere in between. Tuesday and Thursday morning from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, an enthusiastic and dedicated group of men and women can be found playing pickleball at the Wesley Methodist Church gym. Join them, it’s free and open to the public.

Pickleball is a combination of tennis, Ping-Pong and badminton. Players use oversize Ping-Pong paddles to hit the whiffle-like ball over the net on a surface about the third of the size of a tennis court. Rules to the game are similar to tennis, but with a slightly shorter net. The game has especially gained popularity among people over the age of 50 because the low-impact sport is less strenuous on the joints since it’s played on a smaller court and you don't run as much. You get hand eye coordination, the same foot work, the same thought process as tennis but you just don't run as much so it's easier on your body.

If you are interested in getting some exercise for your body and brain and socializing with a great group of people, come join the fun. Equipment is provided, just show up and learn this enjoyable game of pickleball. For questions please contact Debi Beard at (304) 692-2104 or debiryan@comcast.net.
