Pearl S. Buck Books, Signed by Author, Available Through Website

In 2014, West Virginia University entered into a partnership with the Pearl S. Buck Birthplace Foundation to become the stewards of the extensive original manuscript collection of one of this country’s most prolific and celebrated writers. Pearl was born in 1892 in Hillsboro, West Virginia, spent most of her early life in China, and became the first woman in history to win both a Pulitzer Prize and a Nobel Prize for her literary achievements. In 1968, her birthplace in Hillsboro was restored and is now an historic site and tourist destination.

Before her death in 1974, Pearl autographed 300 of her books, which were stored in the vault at the Bank of Marlinton and were to be sold to benefit the Foundation. As a result of the partnership, many of those books, and some others, are now stored in the book depository at WVU.

The rare and valuable books, most are signed and numbered limited editions, are for sale through the Foundation gift shop’s web site - http://pearlsbuckbirthplace.com/shop/books or by contacting the Foundation directly at info@pearlsbuckbirthplace.com or 304-652-4430.
