Heinz History Center Visit - New Options!

The WVU Retirees Association is offering another one-day trip to Pittsburgh to tour the Heinz History Center as well as shopping in the Strip District following the tour.

The Senator John Heinz History Center, an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, is the largest history museum in the region. It is located in Pittsburgh’s historic Strip District, home to a wide variety of restaurants and shops.

The Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum, a museum-within-a-museum located on the History Center’s second and third floors, celebrates Western Pennsylvania’s unsurpassed sports legacy. From football to baseball and hockey to golf, the Sports Museum highlights the region’s passion for amateur and professional sports.

If you are interested in this trip but not a shopper, we have arranged other options. After touring the Heinz Center the bus will drop the group off at 21st and Smallman Street. On this corner you can find the Contemporary Craft Art Gallery and St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.

Contemporary Craft Art Gallery offers free cutting edge art exhibitions. Also, a free drop-in studio where you can participate in a hands-on art activity. You can also purchase unique jewelry and ceramics among other artwork. You can view their website at: http://contemporarycraft.org/.

The historical beautiful St. Stanislaus Kostka Church has offered to open their doors for viewing their gorgeous stained glass windows, statues, and paintings. Check out their website at: http://www.saintsinthestrip.org.

The trip is scheduled for Thursday, August 2, 2018. The cost is $35 per person – this includes transportation and entrance fee to the Center. We will depart from Mountaineer Mall at 8:30 AM and arrive back in Morgantown at approximately 6:30 PM.
