OLLI Musicians to Perform at Gardner Winter Music Festival

Come out to support your fellow OLLI members while enjoying some good music! The OLLI Lap Dulcimer class will perform at the Gardner Winter Music Festival on Saturday, February 24, at 10:00 a.m.

This old-time traditional music festival is held on the last full weekend in February (every year for the past 40 years) in order to "chase away those mid-winter blues". This year the festival is held at South Middle School and is scheduled for Friday, February 23 (from 5:00 to 11:00) and Saturday, February 24 (from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm). The festival includes on stage performances, workshops, informal jam sessions, and lots of good food for sale. Friday evening there is a swing dance and Saturday evening there is a square dance.

There are workshops throughout the day on the many different old-time instruments (fiddle, dulcimer, mandolin, bass) and many will provide instruments to borrow so that you can try it out. You can even take a workshop on flatfooting.

This is a fun weekend to just enjoy some of our local Appalachian culture. You can come and just listen. You can bring an instrument and join in the jam. You can come and learn a new instrument.

Tickets are $3 on Friday and $5 on Saturday. Musicians are always free (so be sure to bring your instrument).
