FILM FORUM: August 30, 2017

To round out the Film Forum’s trilogy of horror, what would it be like to be making that original 1922 Nosferatu? This Wednesday, August 30 at 3:00 PM, join the Film Forum for Shadow of the Vampire, the final film of the summer series. Shadow of the Vampire is a film about the making of a German all time classic silent horror-movie from 1922 called Nosferatu-Eine Symphonie des Grauens (Nosferatu-a Symphony of Horror).

The production had to deal with a lot of strange things (some crew members disappeared, some died) as it’s enigmatic director kept the cast and crew in the dark about some important details, such as the fact of the star actually being a vampire and that he had been promised the female star as his fee! This movie focuses on the difficult relationship between Murnau, the director, played by John Malkovich, and Max Schreck, played by Willem Dafoe, the lead “actor.” There is dark humor as well as pitch dark horror in this one, but any lover of the Dracula tradition will delight in this cinematic “what-if?” story about how it all began.

Watch for the Fall Film Forum schedule in the new catalog, coming soon! Theme: Movies that should have played Morgantown…but didn’t!
