An Afternoon with Mark Twain

Saturday, April 22, 2017

The Kanawha Valley Village People (KVVP) invite free public attendance their next event. Mark your calendars now for an entertaining Saturday afternoon in April! History Alive's Mark Twain is sure to please when he appears April 22 at 2 p.m. at Malden's African Zion Baptist Church (located next to the former Malden Fas Chek). Good Living Assisted Living of Malden is sponsoring this presentation for KVVP members, their guests and the interested general public. The West Virginia Humanities Council website describes the program this way:

"Mark Twain is celebrated as one of America's great authors and humorists. As the young country rapidly grew into an international power in the second half of the 19th century, Twain shared his observations through writing and speeches. His best known novels are “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” and “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,’’ but his work includes nonfiction, magazine articles, monographs, and commentaries that provide interesting insight into the American story. Mark Twain was the pen name of Samuel Clemens.”

The famous author will be portrayed by Doug Riley of Tunnelton, WV.

  1. Twain's presentation lasts approximately 1½ hours, which includes the opportunity for questions and comments. Light refreshments will be served afterward. Please plan to join us --- and bring a friend! Added note for local history buffs: Mark Twain and Booker T. Washington shared a friendship in their latter years. Mr. Twain should feel right at home in his old friend's former church!
