  • West Virginia's New Voter ID Law

    Friday, February 9, 2018

West Virginia’s new voter ID law went into effect on January 1.  But don’t let that scare you—IT’S EASY TO VOTE! Just be aware that when you enter your polling place or an early voting center, you will be asked for ID. There are many different things that can be used, but they must not be expired. If you have a driver’s license or other WV ID card issued by the DMV, a passport, military ID, US or WV Government employee ID card, or a concealed carry permit, you can use them as ID. Or you can use your voter ID card, a government-issued card such as Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, Social Security, or WV hunting or fishing license. You can use a bank/debit card, bank statement or utility bill issued within 6 months of the election.

  • Jim’s Jottings for February 9, 2018

    Friday, February 9, 2018

Sad but glad: If you have been in our two writing or stories classes, you’ve heard me read something from a piece I’ve worked on about “My Three Fathers.” Whaaaat??? I know this sounds preposterous but I did have 3 fathers. Number one conceived me with my mother, number two adopted me at 8 when my mother married him, and number three adopted me in 2004, right here in Morgantown, years after mom and stepfather were gone. The sad part is that PapaJack Held passed from this life last Monday afternoon, very peacefully. The glad part is that JP, as any friend would call him, had a wonderful, productive 91 years as the best teacher I ever experienced and was responsible for mentoring me for 53 years, not to mention a few others he mentored over the years. He had been telling Bonnie and I that he was ready to make his transition to Spirit and move on to the next adventure.
